An Introduction to Child Protection for Educators (Online)

This course is the first in a series of eLearning modules to better equip educators with the knowledge and understanding to support children and young people in their care. Ideal for Primary and Secondary teachers, and all staff working within a school environment.

This course is also ideal as an introductory module for organisations looking to enhance their child protection learning programs or meet regulatory standards.

Main points of training:

Prevalence of abuse, how to recognise abuse, why abuse occurs, responding to disclosures, responding to peer harm, supporting children.


Child Protection outside of School
hours (Online)

Tailored specifically for educators in Outside of School Hours Care, this course contains information on what to look for and what to do when working with children who may be at risk or have been harmed. It outlines your roles and responsibilities to identify and respond to every child at risk of abuse or neglect.

Keeping children safe in sports
(
Online)

This program has tailored resources to keep children and adolescence safe in sport, and looks beyond what to do when abuse is suspected, and emphasizes expectations for adults interacting with children in sport, encourages bringing forward any concerns of misconduct towards children, and helps organizations develop policies that enable coaches and volunteers to uphold standards of conduct that protection children and youth participating in sport. Online training, paired with the associated resources, addresses the importance of understanding boundaries, sexual misconduct, and reporting inappropriate behaviour, as well as the coach-athlete relationship and guidelines for interactions between adults and athletes.

Peer Exploitation aka Sextortion

This training course offer practical direction for supporting youth when a sexual image or video has been created and shared with peers, how to reduce the negative impact on the teen, and guidance that may limit the circulation of the sexual image or video. While these guidelines are a useful intervention tool during a self/peer exploitation incident, they can also be utilized to get the conversation started with youth about risks associated with sexting, as well as where they can turn to if they, or a friend, find themselves in need of help.


My buddy - My best friend
(
In person training)

This is a personal safety initiative that teaches children ages 5 to 8 about one of the most important safety habits—the buddy system. This training course helps educators and parents teach children the valuable lesson of safety in numbers and always having another person - a buddy - accompany them when they are travelling from one place to another. Through the various activities, including songs and games, children learn who can be a buddy, when to bring a buddy, and that the Buddy System is something that should be an everyday safety habit.

When children learn and adopt this very important habit, they reduce their vulnerability to victimization, and increase their personal safety.


Online Grooming (In person training/assemblies)

With growing use of technology it’s now easier than ever to exploit and abuse vulnerable pupils online. This online training is for individuals who work with children, either through employment or on a volunteer basis. This training course helps to recognize the importance of adhering to an employer’s child protections policies, as well as understand child sexual abuse and the grooming process.

This training course consists of 6 different modules that address the following:

  1. the definition of child sexual abuse
  2. the grooming process
  3. handling disclosures of child sexual abuse
  4. the impact of child sexual abuse
  5. creating a Child Protection Code of Conduct for your organization
  6. policies and procedures to use to protect children in your organization


From a childhood sexual abuse to a Homelessness and/or Sex worker
(
In person)

In this training the issue focuses on the intersection between sexual victimization and homeless youth, brief reviews research regarding the involvement of unaccompanied, homeless youth in various types of sexual exploitation including survival sex and recruitment into the commercial sex industry and will recommend a series of programmatic responses to meet their needs, and provides an overview of research on this topic area. The issue addresses the need for early intervention and provides participants with tips on identifying signs of sexual trauma in children as well as when and how to intervene.


Right way to a healthy sexual development (Online)

This course examines several strategies for talking to young children about sexual development and the expression of sexuality. Provides information and suggestions for developing a sexuality education plan and explores the role of the home and the school in sexual education. Parents examine what naturally happens to young adolescents during their sexual growth and development and explore their own beliefs and values about sexual information and development. Strategies for communication are discussed to help parents gain confidence in talking about sexual development and sex with their young adolescents.
